30 Days To A Healthier, More “Fitter” You Series! (Create a Body Positive World)

bodythoughtYour internal dialog plays a critical role in determining how you perceive yourself.

Your thoughts about yourself also have a direct impact on your feelings and behavior.

Increasing the amount of positive self-talk can improve your health and your life in general.

Whenever you think about something, you are, in essence, talking to yourself.

Self-talk serves as the vehicle for making perceptions and beliefs conscious.

It is vital to practice positive self-talk EVERY DAY – in the car, at your desk, before you go to bed and/or whenever you notice any negative thoughts entering your mind!

All in all, if you want to be healthy, then change your focus and be conscious of what you feed your mind.

Your mind is the thing that is out of shape — not your body.

You just need to turn the channel of the program your mind has been programmed to listen to.

Flip to a new and improved channel of who you want to be, and then turn up the volume!

Yesterday, I gave you some ways to create a positive body image.

Today, we are going to learn some ways to create a body positive world with our walk and our talk!

Here Are 15 Ways to Create a Body Positive World:

1. Encourage positive comments and try to avoid negative comments, about your own and other people’s bodies.

2. Participate in physical activities that make you feel good about yourself without making anyone else feel bad about their body.

3. Try not to make judgmental comments about food, calories, dieting, and weight. People of all sizes have issues around these and you never know how you will affect people with your comments.

4. Learn the facts and challenge the myths on size and bodies.

5. Compliment people more often on their ideas, personality and accomplishments than on their appearance and physical being.

6. Try to think of bodies as whole, functional units, rather than breaking them down into parts. Instead of saying “I’m unhappy with my thighs,” say, “I’m pleased that my body is capable of doing this activity well.”

7. Don’t participate in, encourage, or laugh at jokes that make fun of a person’s size or body.

8. Accept all types of bodies as beautiful and challenge limiting societal standard of beauty.

9. Learn about eating disorders and seek help if you suspect that you or a friend has a problem.

10. Wear the clothes that you like and feel comfortable in, rather than what you think makes you look “too fat” or “too thin.”

11. Try to eat when you are hungry, enjoy your food, and take pleasure in the process of eating, without guilt or stress over what you are eating.

12. Object to gender-based assumptions on how bodies should look, such as “women should be thin” or “men should be muscular.”

13. Support organizations and activists who work for positive body image and ending sizism, such as Hanne Blank.

14. Teach kids at a young age that they are beautiful just as they are!

15. Understand that size and body oppression relates to other forms of oppression, such as sexism, racism, and homophobia and then challenge all types of oppression.

  1. Love this post, Gena! Great tips on how to have a more healthy mindset. When I meet people I always try to look for something about them that I can genuinely compliment them on, whether it’s something they’re wearing, or how kind they are, whatever. Not only does it help me to always see something good about another person, but it helps the other person shine too. If someone else happens to compliment me, I take the time to take that on board, to really digest it, as confirmation that I am loveable, as we all are. Thanks for sharing these tips today.

    • Hello Andrea,
It is such a wonderful practice to always look for something positive to compliment someone on. Our world would be such a better place if we would “all” focus on each others gifts and strengths and then magnify that. By building people up instead of tearing them down we are encouraging a healthy way of “being” in the world and in direct relationship to ourselves and each other. Like you said, we are all loveable so let’s absorb that into our “whole being” and allow that love to blanket the Universe.

Thank you so much for your beautiful comment today Andrea,
      Healthy blessings,
      Gena 🙂

  2. Hi Gena,

Positive talk whether it is directed towards yourself or other people is something that should become a habit. When it is, you start to develop the positive mindset and now do it without even realizing that you do it.

  4. Dear Gena,

Once again, I LOVE your post!!!

It is so very amazing how all aspects of having the life you want, EVEN the shape of your body, FIRST start with allowing of where you area and allowing of all others, then in your allowing, you can love more, feel grateful for more and thus, achieve more.

And the amazing thing of all of THAT is that then, you actually begin to align to all that is wanted!!!

Thank you for your wonderful wisdom.

    • Hello Kathy,
      Very well said!!
When we allow ourselves to be exactly where “we’ are and at the same time allow all others to be exactly where “they” are, the law of allowing begins to flow through us, around us, and in us. Good energy is what fuels our body, mind and spirit to achieve more, have more and be more… It just keeps getting better and better… Wooohoooo!!!

Thank you for commenting and also for sharing Kathy!
      Healthy blessings,
      Gena 🙂
