Getting Started with a Whole Food, Plant Based Lifestyle

Over the years I have come to realize that our relationship with foodVegan-Tacos-2 can have a tremendous impact on our spiritual growth and although we are more than our body, it is the vessel that we travel with in this life.

If you are familiar with my work you’ve heard me say; The beginning of spiritual freedom is taking inventory of how we live our life and the choices we make on a daily basis.

When I made the decision last year to adopt a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle I immediately felt lighter in my mind, body and spirit because I’m living, doing, being, speaking and eating from that place that fills me with happiness. It feels like coming home to a place that’s more peaceful, loving, kind and compassionate.

Eating whole plant-based foods that nourish and enrich my body is now an integral part of my spirituality, lifts my essence and sings to my most intrinsic values.

Just to be “clear” a whole food plant-based lifestyle is not just about eating leafy and non-starchy vegetables.

If you try to live only on vegetables alone, you won’t get enough calories which will lead to hunger, decreased energy, cravings and never-ending feelings of deprivation. Yuck – that’s no fun and definitely not for me!!!

Therefore you must complement the vegetables with more filling and healthy starch-based foods like; potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, peas, brown rice, quinoa, chickpeas, black beans, kidney beans and of course some yummy healthy desserts!!

If you are on a spiritual path, I invite you to consider the benefits of truly exploring your relationship with food on a deeper level. Food is a profound doorway into spiritual growth, because how you experience food is how you experience life.

As more of us become focused on living life more consciously, I want to pique your interest about the possibility of awakening to your relationship with food because life and your overall health changes for the better when you upgrade the way you nourish your body.

As I continue forward on my journey I would like to invite you along with me each week while I share some of my favorite recipes and tips on how to create more efficiency in supporting yourself with high-quality, delicious plant based foods. I find that supplying yourself with whole natural plant based foods is one of the key ways to make sustainable changes to your eating habits and spiritual growth.

When you eat joyfully, you bring more joy into your life and into your body. When you savor your meals, you learn to savor your life. And when you’re accepting and grateful of the food you eat, you’re more accepting of yourself. As strange as it might sound, when you’re filled with love, joy, contentment, or calm while eating your meals, the food you consume is also filled with that love.

During this learning, growing and sharing process I invite you to make changes over time at a pace that works for “you.” It is not beneficial to change all of your food at once as abrupt beginnings often have abrupt endings.

Peace be with you, and may you always find light on your path, good health, and true friends to make the journey with you.
