STRESS: Reduce your stress levels. If you suffer from a lot of stress or are overworked, your body has a tendency to throw off a lot of stress hormones that stimulate the production of fat cells that reside in your abdomen (stomach.)

Increased belly fat also increases your risk for heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Yikes! These types of stress hormones like cortisol, for example, also “ignite” your appetite and “lower” your metabolism. Double Yikes!

SLEEP: Be sure that you are getting enough shut eye. A.K.A. – SLEEP! When your body is tired from exhaustion, it just doesn’t have the energy to perform its normal day-to-day functions which includes burning calories!

HOT PEPPERS: Try adding some hot peppers into your meal plan. Jalapeno and cayenne peppers contain a compound called capsaicin that actually stimulates the release of adrenaline into your body which speeds up your metabolism and thus increases your ability to burn calories. Also, when you eat spicy foods, it helps you to feel satiated (full) longer. Also, refer to the 15 Foods for Boosting Your Metabolism shown on the picture.

INTERVAL TRAINING: Try changing up your exercise routine with some interval training. An example of this would be to add a 30 second sprint into your jog every five minutes. If you like to work out on the treadmill then add a one-minute incline walk/run. Interval training is a great metabolism booster

ALCOHOL: If you have a tendency to drink alcohol just know that your body burns off alcohol before burning off food, meaning that the extra food calories are stored as fat.

LATE NIGHT MEALS: If you have a tendency to eat your last meal late at night, try eating your last meal around 6:pm. The reason for this is that your metabolism slows down when you sleep so that it can perform the necessary repair work on your body. Your body wants to repair and restore itself. It doesn’t want to spend its time burning off extra calories.

These are just a few ways to increase your body’s metabolism naturally. Many people find it frustrating when they are doing everything possible to exercise daily and eat healthy meals but still aren’t able to produce their desired weight loss goals.
